How can I create an HDR image in Photoshop 7?
Posted by admin in Photoshop Tips on March 31st, 2009
I won't be getting a hold of a newer version of Photoshop CS for a while, so I'm wondering how to reproduce this effect in Photoshop 7.
Any tippers?
HDR photos are not CREATED in Photoshop. They are done IN THE CAMERA. Photoshop is just used as a means of combining the various exposures into a single photo. The later versions of Photoshop have HDR tools to aid in manipulating the various exposures taken in the camera, but PS is NOT creating the HDR.
You have to mount your camera on a tripod and take exposures of the various tonal values in a scene. This is the basis for HDR photos. The software work afterward is just part of the process.
Possibly you mean you already have the shots in camera and want to use PS 7 to process them. If that is the case, then it is just a matter of using layers and erasing away parts of one photo that you don't want to reveal the part of the scene you do want. In other words, if you had your first photo exposed for the shadows and then layered a photo on top of that exposed for the highlights, you would erase away the shadow portion of the top photo. This would reveal the properly exposed highlights of the top photo and the properly exposed shadows in the bottom photo.

How do I specify a colour to be transparent throughout an image on Photoshop 7.0?
Posted by admin in Photoshop Tips on March 31st, 2009
I'm not sure if Photoshop 7.0 has this function, but is there anyway I can choose a specific colour on my image and make it transparent wherever that colour occurs?
In the Save For Web dialog box, you can tag any color as transparent simply by clicking on its color swatch and then clicking on the Transparency button. This is a very simple mechanism that allows you to make any color transparent (and later remove that transparency) without affecting the colors in your original file. (only for GIF and PNG-8 graphics)
What's the difference between Adobe Photoshop 7, and Adobe Photoshop CS2/CS3/CS4?
Posted by admin in Photoshop Tips on March 31st, 2009
We have Adobe Photoshop 7, and I'm not sure makes the CS series better than 7.
Yes I'm sure.
I base my assessment criteria on what functions I need in a program to do what I need it to do.
At the moment I'm still quite happy with PS 6.
Each successive release of Photoshop adds more functions or fine tunes existing ones.
In that respect CS4 is "better". (CS2 & 3 no longer available).
If you upgrade to CS4 but continue doing the same things you do with 7 you gain nothing. But if you expand on your creativity with CS4 then in that respect it is certainly better.
Is there a way of working on digital files in 16 bit without using photoshop CS?
Posted by admin in Photoshop Tips on March 31st, 2009
I'm trying to get better tones in my B&W digital photos, but since I have photoshop elements and not the full adobe photoshop, I only get 8 bit RGB. Is there a plug in or other software available besides Photoshop CS that could let me convert the 8 bit to 16 bit. Right now the $600 price for full Photoshop would be hard for me to come up with.
There really is no reason to use 16-bit when converting RGB to black and white. The prints from 8-Bit files are just fine. The key is using the saturation and level tools to adjust the image to your specifications .
A good link to converting RGB to black and white.

From Ken Rockwell:
"Non-artists misguidedly waste their time comparing meaningless specs like resolution and bit depth when they really should just stand back and look at the images."

Posted by admin in Photoshop Tips on March 31st, 2009
question pretty much explains it all…ok so i have photoshop cs and adobe illustrator cs…i want to print one image onto four sheets using photoshop or illustrator, ive been trying to figure this out and its getting frustrating if there are any other programs that are possibly free that would be best if its not possible with photoshop or illustrator
Select print, and in the dialogue box, simply select the number of copies you want printed.
Am I missing some subtle point of this question?
How to put colors on the manga by using photoshop cs?
Posted by admin in Photoshop Tips on March 31st, 2009
You know that in manga, some of the pages are a not colored there’e all black and white, I want to make it with color how can I do that with photoshop cs?
There are lots of coloring tutorials on the web that will walk you through the process step by step, but it’s relatively simple to describe.
First you’ll create a new blank layer under your black and white drawing layer. Set the drawing layer to blending mode multiply.
Second, use brushes, the pen tool, and whatever else you like to draw in color on the blank layer underneath. Play around with brush softness, texture, and line quality to get the effects that you like.
Hope this has helped!

What is the best site for photoshop tutorials?
Posted by admin in Photoshop Tips on March 31st, 2009
i want a good website that has photoshop tutorials on alot of different things.
There are a ton of free tutorials available. What you want to do is search for specific things, then you can try out different ones. Everyone works a little differently, so a tutorial I might like might not be something you like.
However, one of my favorites is the video podcast from Bert Monroy, who is a Master Photoshop artist. You can subscribe to his podcast, and he covers a lot of things.
You can find it at http://www.revision3.com/pixelperfect
