7 vs CS2.... Guys.. The concept stays the same - edit photos, but there are SO many feature enhancement, productivity time savers and some tools, in CS3, that I can no longer live without... namely the quick select tool... and image ready is integrated into CS3 now, so you don't have to switch back and forth! (here's a sample video of the quick selection tool, that i'll never be able to go back to older photoshop versions...http://training.xtrain.com/course/show/76-ben-willmore-quick-selections-tool-photoshop-s-coolest-new-tool )

Want to see some of the coolest new features before you buy? check out some of my friend, Russell Brown's tutorials from xtrain.com....

I work with CS3 extended which is just amazing, but all the photoshops are pretty much the same in concept, only obviously improvments within the program, and more capabilities.
References :
My opinion there is not a huge difference between the two. Yes CS2 does have some more "bells & whistles" but the same techniques can be achieved using ps7. If you are just going to be using it for home use primary I would save yourself a couple bucks and go with ps7.
And there are a endless supply of tutorials online that can help you get your final results you are wanting using ps7.
Good luck and have fun!
